Everything Makes Me Sick
Sex Scenes
Nobody these days does punk and metal quite like Milwaukee, and Sex Scenes’ Everything Makes Me Sick is the latest example of why Brew City should be considered one of the loudest locales in the nation. Singer Sarah Turbo distills an entire history of punk fury into every sneering yawp, while bandmates Mary Joy (bass), Gregg Twigg (drums), and Harrison Colby (guitar) deliver riff after punishing riff over a 15-minute speed run to glory. If Sick doesn’t leave your head ringing and your heart pounding then it’s time to look deep into your cold, dead heart, because nothing living could survive these nine ferocious tracks and not feel alive and ready to take on anything the world throws at you. — Kevin
Losin’
Colin Miller
Losin’, the aptly named sophomore album from North Carolina's Colin Miller, mostly takes place a stone’s throw from the setting of his first album, Haw Creek. The setting is essential, as Miller walks us through the feeling of losing a person, our hometown, and maybe even ourselves. Given Miller’s packed schedule as a member of MJ Lenderman’s band, it’s no surprise he’d release an album this direct. It's also not surprising that someone who spends so much time on the road would be able to pen such touching songs about home. Losin’ may or may not be about the lost art of taking an L — listeners can decide for themselves — but it is most definitely one of the defining rainy-day listens of 2025. — Eduardo
